View from another state building

The building we were in for a meeting is called the "spam can". I'll have to post a picture of it.  Anyway, there were new views to be captured on this pretty day when you could actually use those chairs on that roof.  :)

View from the State Office building

on August 29th.  It was a beautiful day.  Then it was 40 degrees the next morning!  With the first frost warning!  And I saw leaves blowing the other day - fall is here...

Denali bear attack.

First bear-related fatality ever in Denali National Park.  Big news up here.  I'm sure it's made it down the the lower 48 as well.

ATTACK

August 26, 2012|By Alan Duke, CNN
The area of Denali National Park where a bear killed a man Friday is closed "until further notice."
A southern California man killed by a grizzly bear in Alaska's backcountry was shooting photos of the animal that killed him just moments before the attack, a National Park Service official said Sunday.

The bear that killed Richard White, 49, was still with his body when rangers found him in Denali National Park on Saturday, the official said.

The San Diego resident had been backpacking alone for three nights when he was mauled to death by the bear, according to a park service statement.

Nice boat

MicroSoft co-founder Paul Allen's boat on Auke Bay.  Supposedly it has a submarine and a helipad.  There is a lot of information on Google about it.

Black bear cub visits Ketchikan lodge

The Associated Press

KETCHIKAN, Alaska — A small black bear cub checked out the sites at a Ketchikan lodge this week.

KRBD reports http://is.gd/9hRNOo

The bear walked into Cape Fox Lodge just after 11 a.m. Wednesday, went into the coffee shop, wandered the lobby and visited the women's restroom. Employees ushered it out the back door after about 10 minutes.

Dave Hayes with the lodge says that at first, people thought it was just a big dog. Once they realized it was a bear, tourists began snapping photos of it in the lobby.

Hayes says the bear wasn't aggressive, and it didn't even growl.
He says you'd think it was just a big pet

Happy Birthday, Dad!

On August 11, 2012 our sweet Dad would have been 81 years old.  What a wonderful person, friend, husband, father and grandfather he was.  God bless you Daddy - we love and miss you!

Emerald Lake

One of the prettiest places, on the drive between Skagway, Alaska and Whitehorse, Yukon.   The first two pictures were taken on the way up around 5 pm, and the last three were taken on the way back around 2 pm.  The lighting really makes a difference in the emerald color.

Columbia

Nice view from the dining room of the ferry Columbia on the return trip from Skagway to Juneau.  We left at 5:45 pm and arrived at 1:15 am - yikes!  We had cabins so we got a bit of sleep.

Tracy Arm Fjord

A day trip from Juneau, the Tracy Arm Fjord with its Sawyer Glaciers is a must see on a visit to Alaska.  Here are some pictures we took on 7/23/12, and a link to a YouTube video  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTR2PMPvc5A (not mine).

The glacier actively "calved" for the 2 hours we floated in the bay, with harbor seals floating on blocks of ice.  It was spectacular!

The view is ever-changing as the glacier calves and more ice pieces join the others and move around from the impact of their fall - you can see a few seals on the middle right of this ;picture.

Beautiful reflection

There was a lot of activity inside the glacier, like inside that little cave at the bottom
